In this lively role, you'll guide guests of all ages through interactive hikes, sharing fascinating stories about the local flora and fauna. Whether you're creating vibrant educational materials or crafting multimedia presentations for rainy days, every day will be a new opportunity to inspire and educate.
You’ll be our nature guru, handling public questions with flair, managing event ticket sales, and collaborating with our awesome Marketing and Social Media team to bring the magic of nature to everyone. We need energetic storytellers who thrive outdoors, rain or shine, and can engage with a diverse crowd. If you’re passionate about ecology, skilled in using digital tools, and have a knack for clear, enthusiastic communication, this role is for you!
Basic First Aid & CPR are must-haves, and if you’ve got Wilderness First Aid and local ecological knowledge, that’s a big plus.

Design and Lead Interactive Ecological Tours:
-
Develop engaging and informative nature hikes and interactive ecological tours on Manitoulin Island.

Tailor programs for large, mixed-age groups, accommodating diverse learning styles.

Ensure safety protocols are adhered to during outdoor activities.
-

Create Educational Materials:
-
Research and produce informative documents, displays, signage, pamphlets, flyers, and e-newsletter articles.
-
Review, revise, and update displays, adapting them for special events.
-
Collaborate with Marketing and Social Media staff to provide engaging educational content.

Public Inquiry Handling:
-
Respond to questions from guests and the general public through various channels (in-person, email, phone, website chat, social media messaging).

Provide information on programs, ecological initiatives, and local ecology.

Event Ticket Sales and Reporting:
-
Oversee ticket sales for The Circle for Change event.
-
Provide reports as requested by lead coordinators.

Multimedia Presentations:
-
Develop multimedia presentations for inclement weather, ensuring they are engaging and educational.

Collaboration:

Collaborate with Marketing & Social Media staff to provide content.

Coordinate with onsite staff for guest directions, report ecosystem observations, and offer recommendations for caregiving or flora, fauna, water, and stone formations.

Qualifications:

Educational Program Experience:
-
Proven experience in providing experiential educational programs for diverse groups with varied learning styles.

Local Ecology Knowledge:
-
In-depth knowledge of the local ecology of northern Ontario and Manitoulin Island.

Communication Skills:
-
Enthusiastic storyteller and confident public speaker.
-
Clear communication with staff, community members, and the public, including conflict resolution skills.

Outdoor Comfort:
-
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
-

First Aid and Safety:
-
Basic First Aid/CPR required; Wilderness First Aid encouraged.

Technical Proficiency:
-
Fluency with Google (Gmail, Drive, Calendar), Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and WhatsApp.

Familiarity with Square for financial transactions and Wix for website-related tasks.

Additional Preferences:

Driver’s License preferred, but not required

Ability to lift up to 60 lbs/27 kg, with accommodations possible.

Aptitude for languages in addition to English.
