Perseids Meteor Shower Viewing on Manitoulin Island
One of the Year's Most Spectacular Celestial Events
Every August, Earth passes through a trail of debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle, creating the Perseids Meteor Shower—one of the brightest and most active meteor showers of the year.
During peak activity, dozens of meteors per hour may streak across the sky, leaving brilliant trails of light overhead. Combined with the Milky Way, planets, satellites, constellations, and exceptionally dark skies, the Perseids offer an unforgettable experience for astronomy enthusiasts, photographers, families, and anyone who has ever wished upon a shooting star.
Why Watch the Perseids at Manitoulin Eco Park?
Located within Canada's first commercially operated RASC-designated Dark Sky Preserve, Manitoulin Eco Park offers some of Ontario's darkest skies and lowest levels of light pollution.
Far from city lights, visitors can experience a night sky filled with thousands of visible stars, the Milky Way stretching overhead, and ideal conditions for meteor watching.
Our Perseids events include opportunities to learn about the night sky, identify constellations, observe planets and satellites, and simply relax beneath a sky most people never get to see.
2026 Perseids Peak Nights
This year's Perseids coincide with exceptionally dark, moonless skies, making conditions especially favourable for meteor viewing.
Join us on August 12 and August 13 for our featured Perseids Meteor Shower events, with August 13 serving as our Main Peak Event.
