We're on the hunt for a passionate Nature and Astronomy Event Guide who loves blending the thrill of outdoor adventures with the welcoming vibe of front desk work. Imagine leading fun and educational eco-tours, guiding stargazing sessions under the pristine night sky, and creating captivating nature hikes.
You'll bring our beautiful park to life with engaging stories and hands-on activities. Plus, you'll help craft cool materials like pamphlets, signs, and interactive displays, making sure our guests are always informed and excited. As a front desk hero, you’ll answer questions, manage event tickets, and keep our Community Nature Centre buzzing with energy. We’re looking for someone with a zest for storytelling, a love for the outdoors, and a knack for making everyone feel welcome.

Combination of front desk work and working nature/ astronomy events/presentations
DETAILS:

Design and lead interactive ecological tours, nature hikes, & other forms of engaging educational events at the beautiful Manitoulin Eco Park and Dark Sky Preserve.

Research and create documents and displays to support public educational initiatives such as signage, pamphlets, flyers, e-newsletter articles, and other materials.

Review, revise, and maintain displays in our Community Nature Centre, adjusting as needed for special events.

Answer questions (in person, via email, phone, website chat, social media messaging) from MEP campground guests and the general public interested in observing and participating in programs.

Oversee Manitoulin Eco Park event ticket sales.

Provide reports as requested by management.

Create engaging multi-media presentations for inclement weather.

Collaborate with Marketing & Social Media staff (eg. provide engaging educational content: photos, videos, language).

Collaborate with Grounds staff (eg. report observations of ecosystem health, recommendations for caregiving or flora, fauna, water, stone formations at the Eco Park).
QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience providing experiential educational programs for the general public in large, mixed age groups with a variety of learning styles.

Knowledge of local ecology of northern Ontario / Manitoulin Island.

Enthusiastic storyteller and confident public speaker.

Comfortable being outdoors in all weather conditions.

Able to engage in clear communication with other staff, community members, and the public, including participating in conflict transformation.

Basic First Aid/CPR required; Wilderness First Aid encouraged.

Commitment to provide inclusive experience for a diverse range of program participants.

Fluency with Google (esp. Gmail, Drive, Calendar), Microsoft Suite (esp. Word, Excel, Powerpoint), WhatsApp.

Fluency with or ability to quickly learn use of Square for financial transactions and Wix for website-related tasks related to the position.

Drivers License preferred, but not required

Preference for individual able to lift up to 60bs/27kg, but accommodations are possible.
